Ryan Bader showed he is not just a wrestler anymore. A devestating right hand that dropped Vinicius Magalhaes to the floor allowed Ryan to follow up with strikes on the ground to get a TKO victory at 2:18 of the first round. The game plan was to keep the fight standing and Ryan worked it to perfection. By using his wrestling skills to not let the fight go to the ground Ryan showed off his vastly improved stand up game. A truely deserving victory, as Ryan came into this fight an underdog but walked away with the win and the UFC contract. I was fortunate to be able to be there in person and Ryan had a huge following there to support him (in the media section we have to be neutral). It was a priveldge to be there and see what I hope is the beginning of a long UFC career that eventually includes a title belt around Ryan’s waist. As always Ryan was very humble in the post fight press conference and nothing but respectful of his opponenet and the opportunity that was made available to him by the UFC. He is a true ambassador for the sport and the type of person that any organization would be proud to have in it’s ranks inside or outside of MMA. Being a parent myself I got a little teary eyed watching Ryan hug is Mother and Father after he came down from the press conference. Nothing in the world feels as good as watching your child work hard and succeed at an any endeavor in life. To be able to watch your child do it while on national television in front of a packed house filled with friends and family has to be an incredible experience that won’t ever be forgotten. As I have said before we have been very fortunate to have been able to have Ryan on the show during his time on The Ultimate Fighter. I look forward to having him on again many times in the future as his career progresses. Reno should be very proud of this young man and the future he has in front of him. I hope to have pictures posted from the event in the next couple of days. My technology skills aren’t quite up there yet so give me a little time to get them into the “Gallery” section.
